Overview of Google Docs
- Formerly Writely (if you type in writely.com, it will redirect to Google Docs).
- Document can be easily shared with others.
- WSYWIG for editing, adding bold, italics, links, lists, etc.
- Lesss threatening to newbies, who are generally comfortable with using Google
- Easy to track changes, including by author.
- Different editors on a document can add comments in colored texts.
- Google Doc can be exported as an HTML page, a Word doc, or PDF.
Bottom line: easy to update, share and collaborate on.

- If you have a Gmail account, along the very top click on the link to “Docs and Spreadsheets“
- If you don’t have a Gmail account or aren’t part of a Google Group, go to docs.google.com and sign up. You’ll need to provide a username and password.
- From the Google Docs entry page, click on the “New Doument” link.
- Give the document a title by clicking on “Untitled.”
- Click on the “Collaborate” button on the top right to give others access to the document.
- Once you get in there, play around~
